Measuring:
If at all possible, have measurements taken by your local seamstress.
Measure over undergarments, keeping the tape snug, but not tight, against the body.
If you plan to wear shapewear, be sure to measure over the shapewear.
· Bust: All the way around the fullest part of the bust, wearing a good bra.
*** This is NOT your bra size ***· Waist: All the way around smallest part/natural curve of waist
· Hip: Placing your heels together, all the way around the widest part of your rear, including the widest part of the thigh.
Selecting Size:
Formalwear runs smaller than everyday clothing sizes, so expect to order a larger size than normally worn.
If between sizes, choose the larger size - dresses can always be taken in/made smaller, but you cannot make them larger.
Just an inch or two larger in the waist or hips than you are happy with?
Consider some shapewear like SPANX, the comfortable, modern "Figure Fixer"!
Minor alterations are to be expected, as the fit will be slightly different from everyday clothing.
Gowns are between 59-60" long - allowing for ladies up to 5' 8" tall with 3" heels, or 5' 11" tall wearing flats.
